The purpose of this site is to chronicle some of our activities for family and friends. Content includes a bit of Newell family genealogy, some of my short stories, some
recordings of my music in MP3 form, along with some examples of my car restoration hobby and a few special interest pages.
** This picture was taken in the city park of Bayport, Minnesota, where we lived from 1981 to 2000. The St Croix river is more than a half mile wide at this point.
Click on BMW here or in the nav bar for for pictures and information on my very early Six Series BMW. The car is a 1976 Euro model that was never officially imported to the USA. It is the 302nd Six Series car built, and was assembled in June 1976 by Karmann. In 1977 BMW brought 6 Series production in house for the remainder of the 88,000 plus cars produced.
The car was something of a 'barn find'. I bought it at a 'Junk for Jesus' auction. The previous owner had painted it with a brush using interior wall paint. But the car was straight and had never been in an accident. And thanks to having spent its
life in the dry desert climate of Tucson, Arizona, it is completely rust free.
The other day my son Michael and I were discussing the merits of buying a new car that gets 35 mpg vs used car that gets 20 mpg. When would the total cost of operation between the two become equal? So Michael put his mathematical brain to work
and came up with a formula and I created a page where you can input various parameters and then calculate some results.
Click on When will I break even? and give it a try. It will very likely surprise you.
